Ingredients
Scale
For the Hamburger Steaks
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Oil, for cooking
For the Creamy Dill Sauce
- 2 tbsp plant-based butter
- 1 cup plant-based milk
- 1 tsp natural gelling agent
- 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Hamburger Steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef with finely chopped onion, minced garlic, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), salt, and pepper. Mix lightly until just combined, being careful to avoid overworking the meat. Form the mixture into evenly sized oval patties and set aside.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a touch of oil. Once hot, place the patties in the pan and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until nicely browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and keep warm.
- Make the Creamy Dill Sauce: In the same skillet, melt plant-based butter and slowly whisk in plant-based milk combined with the natural gelling agent. Stir until smooth and beginning to thicken. Add fresh dill, lemon juice, and salt to taste. Let the sauce simmer gently for a few minutes, stirring to blend all flavors beautifully.
- Combine and Serve: Return the cooked hamburger steaks to the skillet with the creamy dill sauce. Spoon sauce over each steak and let them warm together for a couple of minutes to marry the flavors. Serve hot and enjoy.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the meat to keep the patties tender.
- Use fresh dill for the most vibrant flavor.
- Adjust sauce thickness by gradually adding plant-based milk and natural gelling agent while whisking.
- Let the patties rest a few minutes after cooking to retain juiciness.
- Cook patties on low to medium heat to avoid burning and ensure even cooking.
