Description

Baked Crunchy Hot Honey Chicken offers a perfect balance of sweet heat and irresistible crunch with a golden, crispy coating and a sweet and spicy natural hot honey glaze. This plant-based friendly recipe uses simple, easy-to-find ingredients and baking for a mess-free, flavorful dish suitable for weeknight dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 chicken thighs or breasts, skin-on or boneless

Coating

  • 1 cup plant-based dairy (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (natural)
  • Salt, a pinch
  • 1 1/2 cups plant-based breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Hot Honey Glaze

  • 1/3 cup natural honey
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Pat chicken pieces dry with a paper towel to ensure the coating sticks well. Lightly season with salt and pepper.
  2. Create the Coating: In a bowl, mix plant-based dairy (if using) with garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a pinch of salt. Dip each chicken piece into this mixture to absorb moisture.
  3. Coat with Breadcrumbs: Press each chicken piece firmly into the plant-based breadcrumbs until fully coated to create a crunchy exterior.
  4. Prepare the Hot Honey Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine natural honey, chili flakes, apple cider vinegar, and natural gelling agent. Warm gently until the glaze thickens slightly and ingredients are well combined.
  5. Bake the Chicken: Arrange coated chicken pieces on a lined baking sheet with space in between. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 25 minutes, or until crispy and cooked through. Halfway through baking, brush chicken with the hot honey glaze for sticky, spicy-sweet flavor.
  6. Final Glaze and Serve: Upon removing chicken from the oven, brush a final layer of glaze on top for maximum shine and taste. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Pat chicken dry before coating for the crispiest results.
  • Press breadcrumbs firmly into chicken to avoid patchy coating.
  • Allow space between pieces on the baking sheet for even baking.
  • Brush glaze gradually to control sweetness and spice levels.
  • Let chicken rest a few minutes after baking for juicy texture.
