Description

This Almond Flour Pie Crust is a light, flaky, and tender gluten-free crust made with simple, plant-based (natural) ingredients. Offering a subtle nutty flavor and crisp finish, it is perfect for both sweet and savory pies, making it a versatile and wholesome alternative to traditional pie crusts.

Ingredients

Scale

Pie Crust Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups almond flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon natural gelling agent
  • 1/4 cup chilled plant-based (natural) butter
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (natural)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Ingredients: Measure out almond flour, plant-based (natural) butter, cold water, natural gelling agent, salt, and maple syrup (natural). Keep the butter chilled to help achieve a flaky texture in the crust.
  2. Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine almond flour, salt, and natural gelling agent. Stir gently to evenly distribute the ingredients before adding liquids.
  3. Cut in the Plant-Based Butter (natural): Use a pastry cutter or fingertips to incorporate the chilled plant-based (natural) butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces.
  4. Add Liquid Ingredients: Drizzle maple syrup (natural) and cold water into the mixture. Stir gently, then knead the dough a few times by hand until it just holds together. Avoid overworking it to keep the crust tender.
  5. Rest and Chill the Dough: Shape the dough into a disc, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up and make rolling easier.
  6. Roll or Press the Dough: On a lightly floured surface or parchment paper, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness or press evenly into a pie dish for a no-roll option.
  7. Bake: If pre-baking, prick the dough with a fork and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden and fragrant. For pies baked with filling, follow the pie recipe’s instructions.

Notes

  • Keep everything cold including plant-based (natural) butter and water to maintain flakiness.
  • Do not overwork the dough to avoid a tough crust.
  • Use parchment paper when rolling to prevent sticking and ease transfer.
  • Chill the dough sufficiently before baking to avoid shrinking and ensure firmness.
  • If dough is crumbly, add a small splash of cold water to achieve the right consistency.
