Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
- 1/4 cup plant-based butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
Garlic Butter Brushing
- 1/4 cup plant-based butter, melted
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: Pour warm water into a bowl and sprinkle the active dry yeast on top. Add a pinch of sugar and let it sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy and bubbly.
- Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Pour the activated yeast mixture and melted plant-based butter into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough begins to form. Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape and second rise: Gently punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Divide into evenly sized pieces, shape each into a round ball, and arrange in a greased baking dish, leaving space between each. Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
- Prepare garlic butter brushing: Melt plant-based butter and stir in minced fresh garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural). Set aside.
- Bake and brush: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush rolls generously with garlic butter mixture. Bake 18-22 minutes until golden brown. Immediately brush again with garlic butter after baking for a glossy finish.
Notes
- Use warm water and melted butter, not hot, to keep yeast active.
- Use just enough flour to knead to keep dough soft and tender.
- Allow dough to fully double in size during rises for best texture.
- Brush rolls immediately after baking to lock in moisture and flavor.
- Fresh minced garlic provides the best vibrant flavor.
